Earl Grey and Lemon Face Scrub
http://www.brit.co/#post/homemade-face-scrub
It's a very detailed look at the ingredients that are common in DIY scrubs. I would recommend doing a bit of research about what other ingredients people use in scrubs, masks, and treatments; then try a few out! Also keep in mind that if you don't like the smell, you're not gonna want to put it on your face all the time.
I have acne prone skin but it's not very oily. So if you're like me this could be a good choice for you. I made a small mason-jar full (a little over a cup), and am keeping it in my shower since I'll use it quickly. If you're gonna use it only occasionally, or if you put fruit in it other than lemon, you'll probably want to keep it in the fridge.
I used olive oil since that's what I had in my cupboard, but I definately prefer coconut oil. Olive tends to have a strong scent that masks the smell of your ingredients. Anyway here's the rough measurements of what I put in (and why):
Earl Grey and Lemon Face Scrub
1/3 cup sugar (brown, since it's gentler, but that's totally up to you)
1/4 cup olive oil (I had it and it's super moisturizing and naturally antibacterial)
Juice from 1/2 a lemon (smells good, antibacterial)
Dried, cut up lemon peel (vitamin C, extra exfoliation, smell)
<1 Tbsp ear grey tea leaves, finely ground (smells delicious, and black tea decreases inflammation and sooths)
2 Tbsp honey (antibacterial)
1/3 cup oats, finely ground (exfoliating)
I might try adding baking soda, since it's good for blackheads- we'll see.
I really like this scrub, it's exfoliating and softening, but isn't too harsh. I'll let you know how it affects my complexion after I use it for a week or so.
Let me know what kind of scrub ingredients you try out and how they effect your skin!
